Hi guys , I start new topic here  to present my work  on two wood models  who I am the designer . Models are  FW-190 A8  in 1/4 and 1/5 scale  and  FW-190 D9 in 1/4 and 1/5 scale

Hi again , I made the airfoils of original wings in the root NACA 23015 and NACA 23009 in the tip of wing
So the wing will have the original foil , What you think about this my decision ?

I put the drawing of Sierra landing gear it to the plans, so I made position . I choose Sierra because  that are strong and are  1/5 and 1/4 scale gears

 I start to make the wing ribs of the wing, I use for more reality the real plans of the A5 . Off course I have more work  on the ribs and make stringer holes .






finally I made the design of the wing have some litlle details




So the all drawings cut and now start the nteresting stage

Dear Rumen,

Considering that many other manufacturers of 1/5 or 1/4 scale FW190's tend to use non-scale airfoils (Meister even uses almost flat-bottomed, if I am not mistaken?) which are also thicker in the tip, maybe it would be prudent not to scale down airfoil choice from 1:1... Especially the dip in the LE bottom surface of the 23009 looks like it may give some nasty tip-stall tendencies. But - OK - my 2 cents here...

Keep going - looks absolutely great, a work of art. Including the embossing of the rivets and hatches on the ply (great idea!).

Thanks Hector , Yes , we had discussion in RCSB ( http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=20634&PN=0&TPN=16)   about airfoils, I think that the other designers  use  ONE tipe airfoil to the tip of the wing because thay don't want  troubles and they have insurance for the good flight but is not scale , the other reason can be that  they want to  put  landing mechanism in the wing ,because if you use the original  airfoil like me   you need to make many calculations about washout  between the main airfoil  and the tip airfoil who is on  a constant change like most wings from root to tip
I prefer to be like the original , will be very easy to change  like other RC plans

That's a clearly a "strategic" (rather than technical) choice then Rumen - one cannot argue with that!

It is interesting how will fly, for me it is clear that will fly , the question is how I believe that the Germans are made the calculations before me , I just copy them

 I made wood cowl for A8 )) Yes wood cowl , not composite, I want to try how will be if the cowl is from wood , what weight will be and other questions which I have in my mind )

The ailerons, flaps and rudder I will cut later from 1.5 or 2mm plywood

Hi Fokke, impressive project (as usual!  )

It will be interesting to see if the scale wing flies like the original, the following is from English test pilot Eric "Winkle" Brown:

The stalling speed of the Fw 190A-4 in clean configuration was 127 mph (204 km/h) and the stall came suddenly and virtually without warning, the port wing dropping so violently that the aircraft almost inverted itself. In fact, if the German fighter was pulled into a g stall in a right turn, it would flick out into the opposite bank and an incipient spin was the inevitable outcome if the pilot did not have its wits about him.
The stall in landing was quite different, there being intense pre-stall buffeting before the starboard wing dropped comparatively gently at 102 mph (164 km/h).

Yes it will be interesting, always I can change the wing ribs but I belive that the result from my  projekt will be good for the model. Off course the model  can not be tested under the same conditions as the original so I  think  that  will be ok . The airfoil NACA 23015 is a  profil for  models to , so I think  is OK

I started with assemnbling of fuselage, off course have several litlle mistakes , but I correct them

So I pulled my old long table and began sticking to detail with glue.

For me the way of assembly of these structures differ slightly from the classical method of construction of shipway, because I think that enough is assembled model and takes a few points with which to catch on a flat surface and, ensure accuracy. First I fixate skeleton with cyanoacrylate glue so that it does not spill but to fix the detail that allows subsequently be adjusted in construction coated with slow glue which in this case is Time Express. After assembling the skeleton with cyan glue fix it on the counter and straighten all angles in the correct position only after everything I tripped and I am sure that everything is in the correct position to start slowly coated with glue Moment
Here it should stringers before placing the body to come off the counter.

The next step is  to fix the stringers

I made a crash test. On the second film you can see that on the small piece have glue and wood residue from the horizontal plywood stringer. So I think that this glue work great in any situation smile
