I'm going to model an AVRO but i couldn't find any referances from google. Please HELP ME to find some pictures of that plane.
With best wishes, Dr. M.K.OZKIR Τίτλος: Απ: AVRO 504K pictures Αποστολή από: Γιώργος Κανδυλάκης στις Πέμπτη, 19 Μαρ 2009, 11:02:57 Hello Mr. Ozkir,
welcome to the Greek aeromodelling forum. There is not much activity regarding Greek aviation history here, but it happens I have an interest in it, so I think I can help you, even a little... You have certainly picked an interesting old aircraft out of the Greek fleet, of which there very few pictures. (I have seen only four...) As it happens, I have a copy of one, which shows one of the few 504k which flew in Greek colors after W.W.1. (https://www.aeromodelling.gr/album/albums/userpics/Avro_504K_NAY_51.jpg) The picture is taken close to Dekelia airport, near Athens, in 1920, following a forced lianding. The plane belongs to the Naval Aviation Service (Naftiki Aeroporiki Ypiresia) and was used for training purposes (naturally). Regarding colors, roundel and rudder are light blue-white, and the plane could be doped linen. The silver color for trainers was introduced a little later, I think. Not much to go with maybe, but at least something to start with... I hope it helps. Now for something on my turn, if you can help. Do you know of any existing pictures of Turkish Bleriot monoplanes used in the first Balkan wars? Good to have you here, Regards, George Kandylakis PS. What kind of model are you thinking of ? Needless to say, we would like to see pictures if you proceed... Τίτλος: Απ: AVRO 504K pictures Αποστολή από: XD 9 στις Πέμπτη, 19 Μαρ 2009, 11:56:28 Dear Mr Ozkir.
I'm quite impressed that a Turkish neighbour is interested in Greek aviation history, and particularly in Asia Minor campain. As Mr Kandylakis (an expert in that era) stated, not much info on that plane exists. I'm posting two more pictures from my personal archive. You can see that aircraft is painted in clear doped linen, with PC10 (probably, could be PC12 also) on upper surfaces of both main and tail wings, also at least one aircraft maintained the british serial number on lower wings. The first picture was taken at the airport of Ussak in 1920, and the second picture is another view of the same aircraft that Mr Kandilakis posted (Dekeleia 1921). All pictures are from the photo Album of A.Moschovinos who served as a second lieutenant (RHNAS) during the A/M campain. Hope this is also helpful. At your disposal. Pavlos Tsekas ptsekas@otenet.gr P.S It could be of much help if you have any pictures on Greek DH9s or N 24/27s that were abandoned to Asia Minor after August '22. Τίτλος: Απ: AVRO 504K pictures Αποστολή από: Γιώργος Κανδυλάκης στις Πέμπτη, 19 Μαρ 2009, 19:14:56 To keep things correct, I would like to add that the picture I have attached was given to me by a friend and it also originates from P. Tsekas' collection.
The two other pictures I know of, are the ones added by him... Not much else I am afraid on the 504k, at least to my knowledge. Pretty soon we might be having a Greek aviation history section as well. Would that be of interest, anybody ? George Kandylakis Τίτλος: Απ: AVRO 504K pictures Αποστολή από: XD 9 στις Πέμπτη, 19 Μαρ 2009, 20:17:43 ...looking forward on that section, count me in :thumbs up:
