Aeromodelling GR

Αυτο είναι ενα πιο μεγαλο "version" απο το Peanut σκεδιο του Walt Mooney με λιγα "tweaks" εδω και εκει.   Εκανα ένα 5 χρονια πριν ομως είχα πολύ προβλματα με το "undercarriage", ποιο σπασμενε σκεδων καθε πτηση.  Ελπιζω αυτο το μοντελο θα είναι πιο δυνατο και επισης ετοιμο για το BMFA Scale Indoor στο Walsall σε Απριλιο. Θα δουμε.

Λοιπαμαι, ομως πρεπει να γρασψα της λεπτομερειες απο το "build" στα Αγγλικα, γιατι το Ελληνικο λεξιλογιο μου είναι μικρό.  Corrections to dodgy grammar and vocabulary are always welcome.

This is a larger version, with some modifications, of Walt Mooney's peanut scale Chiribiri No. 5.  I built one over 5 years ago and although it flew the undercarriage was fragile and the model spent more time being repaired than flown.  I'm hoping that with a larger version I can make the undercarriage robust enough without a weight penalty to spend more time flying than repairing.

I'm also hoping to have it ready for the BMFA indoor scale intermediate class event in April, but it may be that it will have to wait until 2027.

To business.
1 - What idiot thought a scale rib count was a good idea.
2 - One fuselage, mostly complete.

Wings.  Waiting for final shaping of the leading and trailing edges as well as the addition of through tubes (probably fine grass stems) for rigging mounting points.

Any Greek readers care to let me know the usual terms for the various parts (undercarriage, leading edge, trailing edge κτλ) I'd be pleased to know them

Χρειασεται της μεντεσεδες.  Ο θαλαμος του Trinity δεν είναι φαρδύς, 13μ μονο, και δεν θελω τα μεγαλα "trim tabs" για αυτο το μοντελο.

Next small step the rudder/fin.  The hinges are wire from sandwich bag ties. A moveable rudder is very, very helpful for flying at Trinity because the maximum circuit without obstacles is only 13m and large trim tabs on such a small rudder/fin would look ugly.

As usual trying to keep the tail parts as light as possible so thin section wood is used. Ribs and hinge post are 1/20" balsa and the upper and lower curves are 1/20" x 1/32" basswood.  The hinge post is made of slightly harder wood so that the hinges don't pull out.

Ενας αλλο συστατικος, η ουρα (η σωστη λεξη;)

Προβλεπω προβηλματα με της προτες πτησες.  Δειτε το "reflex" εγκαρασια τομη, φαινεται να υηπαρχει "up elevator".

Next bit, the tail plane.  I can see the reflex cross-section causing some interesting behavior when it comes to trimming as it looks as though it gives a permanent up elevator.  After I built the peanut version I thought that if I ever built another I would use a flat tail-plane, but (silly boy) I thought I'd give the scale shape another go.  If it doesn't work I will replace it with a flat version.

Χθες το βράδυ (και σήμερα) άρχισα τους τροχόι με ακτίνες.  Ελπίζω να τελειώσω αυτους την εβδομάδα ομως ολλα παέι σιγά.

Made a start yesterday evening on the spoked wheels, contiuned with the axles today .  I'm hoping I'll get the wheels finished this week, but back at work after Xmas and everything is going slowly. Managed to get all the discs cut, the lacing guide sorted and the axles made.

1 Using the method that Γιώργο Κ posted in the old HPA I & II gallery. 
2 The thread I intend using.  Not used this before. It's thinner than the button thread I usually use but it's the right colour so I won't have to paint it.
3 Vital tools (for me) for this forum.

Που πιγαίνει το καιρο;  Επιτέλους, σκεδόν, δυο τροχόι.  Χρεασόνται λιγο δουλειά με γυαλόχαρτο και χρώμα. Ένα έργο για αυριο.

Whoosh! And there goes another fortnight in the blink of an eye.  Finally got the wheels built this last few days. Well, almost.  Still some final shaping to do and painting.  Hope to get that done tomorrow.

Who's an utter clot?  Yes, me.

The wheels are too fat/thick. Compare them to those of my Fokker D VIII.  I know what I did wrong, and it's too stupid for words so I'm not going to tell you. :)

Two choices.  Build new or see if I can cut and sand the unnecessary outer lamina off.  Going to see if I can butcher the wheels first.  If it works all well and good if not just make new.

That went better than I thought it might. Fairly pleased with that.  A little bit more sanding, sealing & painting needed, but they'll look much more as they should.

Σιμερα έχουμε ένα ψυγείο ( σωστή λέξη; ).  Πίσω από το υπάρχει το πιο μεγάλος θάλαμος του κόσμου για το Pb.  Θα είναι απαραίρτητη!  :)

Getting there slowly.  Got the radiator more or less done today. It will need a "cap" to fair in the top part of the cowling and the sides need round off slightly to complete it. It's a push fit to give access to possibly the world's largest ballast chamber for a model this size.  It'll be needed.

WOW..... The "Ψυγείο" correctly said, is great! Honestly I would have never thought about doing it this way!!!

Λυπάμαι κύριοι, είχα ψηλα ημερα στο γραφειο και το μυαλό μου δεν λειτουργει προς το παρον ετσι αυτη θα είναι μια αγγλικη γραμμα...

The dashboard.  This is a bit of a puzzle.  There is only one not very good photograph of the Chiribir's dashboard. It looks as though it might have used manometers for oil & petrol like its Bleriot contemporary.  My peanut version had a hand-drawn dashboard.  It was not convincing.  So this is an attempt to make something a little more realistic.  Not entirely successful, but the effort was made.

The most difficult part was finding and fixing the manometer tubing.  It is a dead Biro tube heated and drawn to thin it out.  Unfortunately it became slightly curved and was troublesome to fix in position.  I ended up using a thin film of fast setting epoxy.  The "fluid" in the manometer tubes is short lengths of 1mm solder.  The "cases" are thin brass sheet.

Τώρα, που είμαστε; .... Οὐά!*.. ναι, το ταμπλό.

Φαίνεται για μενα το Chiribiri εχει μανόμετρα όπως το Bleriot, δειτε πανω.

Σχέδιασα το ταμπλό για το peanut Chiribiri μου και ήταν, ας λέμε στα Αγγλικα, “absolutely dreadful” (φοβερός!), δειτε κατο. Ετσι αποφάσισα να κανω τιποτα πιο λιγο πραγματικό.  Δηλαδή, έλπισα να κανω κατι πιο πραγματικο...

Το πιο δύσκολο εργο ήταν το σωληνάριο ( σωστή λέξη; ), αυτο είναι απο ένα νεκρό στυλο και τεντωμένο με ζέστη. Δεν επήγε καλα, έγινε κυρτό. Ισχυρό κόλλα ηταν απαραίτητο.

*Δεν μπορώ να βρω την λέξη για αγγλικα "Ah!"  στο λεξικο μου

Λιγα περρισότερο πράγματα για το ταμπλό και το κάλλυμα.  Πάει σιγά.

1,2 Δοκιμάζει το μόνωση καλώδιου για το "coaming" επίσης το τοποθεσία για τα μανόμετρα.
3,4 Αυτο Θα γινέι τα άνοιγμαta αερισμού στης πλευρές. Ελπίζω.

A few more bits for the dashboard & cowling.  Slow going.

1,2 Testing to see if the insulation I have to hand looks about right for coaming leather and how the manometers will look when fixed in place.
3,4 Shaping the side louvres.  The wood for the, curved, top is currently drying on the mould.

Περισσότεροι μικρές λεπτομέριες για το κάλλυμα, άνοιγμαta αερισμού. Αυτο ήταν το δύσκολο βήμα για τα άνοιγμαta.  Νομίζω τις πλρευρές θα είναι πιο απλό.  Δηλαδή, ελπίζω θα είναι, υπάρχουν 16 άνοιγμαta να κάνει για τις πλρευρές!

Some small details for the upper cowling, the louvres.  I'm hoping the sides will be a bit easier, 'cos there's eight on each side!
Painting the back of each louvre black to hint at an opening is going to be an interesting challenge.

Ύπαρχουν μεγάλες τρύπες στο λεξιλόγιο μου και τα λεξικά μου και το web δεν βοηθούν, ετσι υπάρχουν αγγλικες λέχεις σήμερα.

Τρεις ημερες να κανει το nose-plug. Αργα ή...;  :)

Προς το παρον το "thrust lines" είναι 2 βαθ. κατο και 2 βαθ. δεχια. Μάντεψα!

Slow going.  This is news?  :)

Started cutting and gluing the lamina for this on Friday evening.  One nose plug.

I've gone for 2 deg down & right - it's a guess - to start with.  Most of my models seem to end up with thrust lines around that so I'm hoping they won't be wildly wrong.

Κατασκευή για το "rigging".

Καλησπέρα όλους.

Λίγες μίκρες λεπτομέρειες.

1 - Το tissue [ * ] χαρακτήροι/αριθμόι. Θα είναι μια ενδιαφερόμενη δουλειά!
2 - Κατασκευή για το "rigging" με χρώμα.  Χρησiμοποιώ "gun metal" acrylic απο Humbrol για σίδερο.  Νομίζω δουλεύεται καλο.
3 - Το άνοιγμα για το βήμα.  Θα κοψω μια τρύπα στο tissue αργότερα.

[ * ] Ξερω μόνο χαρτομάντιλο για "tissue".  Τι είναι την σωστή λέχη εδω;

A few more little details.  Keep chipping away at it and I may even finish it.

1 - Cut tissue serials. It'll be a "fun" job getting these in place.
2 - The rigging cabane painted and ready to fit.  I usually use gun metal for iron / steel parts.  I think it works well.
3 - Opening for the pilot's step.  Make an opening in the tissue after covering and, oh so carefully, paint a gun metal rim around it.

Και εμενα!

Ποτέ τελειώνει;  Οχι φέτος!   Τρεις εβδομαδες να κανει μόνο αυτό.
