P-13  - Classic errors seen at Euros & in the UK:

    1. Clover leaf – Initial radius far too tight; too long a vertical;  then big loops, bigger than the initial radius. Marginal straight before roll & no straight after!  - 2 points lost immediately

    2.  Stall turn – if model is not vertical, looks bad, never mind the ‘track of model’ stuff.

    3. Roll combo – rolling elements although performed very well – but will always be let down by lack of straight & level to finish. Climb slightly at the finish (as most do)  -1 then.

    4.  Half square loop – rolls rarely in middle of line. Line needs to be continued after 2nd ½ roll, regardless of finishing height.

    5. Triangle – ditto about rolls – model needs to be level before & especially after roll. Too small a pause after roll -1

    6. Split S - Most Euro competitors pausing momentarily after the roll before pushing. Somehow, it looks better than an immediate push. Don’t know whether it was downgraded for the pause –depends who does it!

    7. Snap – 45 degree line must continue after snap. If climb flattens –looks bad –expect a downgrade. Noticed Wolfgang Matt’s snaps – stopped dead after rotation, (looked like opposite something!)  & continued at 45 degrees, before pushing level much later. Nothing to take any points off!

    8. Reverse Top Hat - With winds always blowing out at the Euros – most competitors decided, rightly, to ‘come in’. This meant for some a shortened flat at the bottom for those who flew to the edge of the box–which is why CPLR started the manoeuvre immediately after the snap to use the 150m  to effect a good flat on the bottom.

    9. Spin – Saw plenty of ‘iffy’ spin entries & not sure how judges scored them. Most obvious is different rotation speeds.

    10. Humpty – Well positioned in the schedule, with a good option for x wind correction. No real problems seen with either option.

    11. Cuban – integrated loops less of a problem then meeting 45 degree intersection points. Usually caused by 2nd loop flown into wind & tightening the loop. Most people ‘buying’ time by flat spotting the 2nd loop. Probably the least worst option, since the intersections are easily spotted & downgraded and the integration of the roll, less so.

    12. Needs to be big – any changes in radius or flattening –expect to be punished.

    13. Square loop -  common errors – rolls not in centre of line & rolls too fast.

    14. Fig 9 – Loop always high up & distant –so difficult to downgrade. Points lost after ½ rolls where vertical is not true or long enough before pull out.

    15. Roll Combo – rolls need to be slow for best presentation. Most competitors taking up most of the box –to good effect.

    16. Half loop on corner – looks better if done big, otherwise the 45 degree & ¼ roll ‘dominate’ the manoeuvre & the important knife edge looks too small. Also turning initially tight & then reducing rudder - a complete no-no.

    17. Figure Z - Classic over rotation on 1st roll element & then a ‘token’ 4th element. Totally obvious & a downgrade.

Presentation or Style –Very important for points. Fly fast & big & it won’t matter how accurate you are –you simply won’t get the points –even though there are no downgrades in the rules.

Roll speeds in manoeuvres - rolls need to be slow to gain points -or rather if you fly fast roll speeds in, say, the Square loop – you will lose points, regardless of how accurate or clinical the rolls. Slower rolls look better & will demonstrate you are better in control of the manoeuvre because the manoeuvre will look more relaxed.

Horizontal & vertical lines – Absolutely vital – especially at the end of a manoeuvre – the last thing a judge sees & where most competitors lose most points.

    Conclusion
The extra points we need are achievable provided we pay more attention to the basics. It’s more about true horizontal & vertical lines, slower controlled rolls in the centre of lines & presentation in a relaxed manner– rather than the manoeuvres themselves.

Wink

Thumbs up

Wink

    Ξεκινάμε με Part 1 P13,
